Jon began practice as a litigation associate at the New York head office of a large international law firm. He represented major financial institutions and public corporations (including three of the Fortune 10 companies) in a variety of matters including securities and business litigation, International Chamber of Commerce arbitrations, and investigations conducted by the Securities and Exchange Commission and various United States Attorneys' Offices. Jon's efforts resulted in the successful resolution of a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the brokerage and securities arm of a leading U.S. financial institution that involved claims under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, Securities Exchange Act, Commodity Exchange Act and state fraud statutes. Jon and others also represented the investment banking subsidiary of the nation's largest bank in connection with the collapse of a publicly-traded commodities brokerage company within months of its initial public offering. Jon also participated in several appellate matters, including appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and an appeal to New York's highest state court of an insurance law ruling determining whether a U.S. company could obtain excess coverage in connection with hundreds of thousands of personal injury claims.
Jon returned to Kentucky in 2008 and joined our firm where he continues to represent individuals and banks, insurers and other clients in a wide variety of business litigation matters. Jon's practice focuses on complex and multidistrict litigation, and he represents financial institutions in matters involving lender liability, employment discrimination, non-compete provisions and real estate disputes. His recent matters include the defense of a limited liability company in a multidistrict litigation involving twenty-one consolidated matters, the prosecution of a wage and hour class action lawsuit against a large area employer, and representation of an executor in a multimillion dollar trust and estate lawsuit.
Jon maintains a strong interest in public service and is active in the Louisville community. Before law school, Jon served in President William J. Clinton's second administration as a member of the White House advance staff, and Jon continued to act as an aide to President Clinton in New York and in connection with his foreign travel, including his work for the Clinton Foundation's HIV/AIDS initiative and as U.N. Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery. Jon has also worked in the presidential campaigns of Gen. Wesley K. Clark (Ret.), Senator John F. Kerry and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
